Evangelische Studierendengemeinde Jena

Welcome to the Protestant Student Community in Jena

Welcome on the website of the Protestant Student Community in Jena (Evangelische Studierendengemeinde or just the ESG).

Who we are:

We are a community of students and young adults, who want to think outside the box and learn more about God and the world. We worship and celebrate together, engage with the Bible, faith and theology, go hiking, cook together and much more.

We want to create a space where people from different cultural or religious backgrounds, sexual orientation, different perspectives and experiences come together and get into conversation. We want to be a place where peace, justice and the protection of God’s creation lead our actions.

What we do:

We normally meet us every Tuesday and Thursday evening during semester in the August-Bebel-Straße 17a.

We start with dinner at 18.30 pm, 19.30 pm follows a prayer and at 20.00 pm begins a talk, discussion etc.

We also meet on Thursday evenings, normally  at 20.00.  However, there can be some changes, so make sure that you check our program.

You are warmly invited to the „ESG international“ in the ESG on a Thursday every month. We discuss and engage with topics, especially related to global and intercultural issues. Please check our program for more information.

How to get there:

To get from the town centre to the ESG-House (August-Bebel-Straße 17a), follow the Wagnergasse and pass all the bars and restaurants. Keep straight on. The next road is the August-Bebel-Straße, where you go straight on for about 400m.

Number 17a is on the left-hand side, a blue- grey building with a big glass front. You just have to go down the slope on the left and then you can enter the open door. You should be welcomed by on of our lovely red roosters, the ESG-mascot.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon in the ESG Jena 🙂

Additional information for international students:

Dr. Constance Hartung  can help students who are engaged in the life of the ESG to receive financial support from the Diakonie der Evangelischen Kirche Mitteldeutschlands ( a Protestant charity from the Lutheran Church in central Germany).
